Overview
Santa
Cruz River Park is southern Arizona's Oldest and Busiest
Disc Golf Course. In fact, if you ask the old timers
from Tucson, they'll tell you that it is one of the
oldest courses in America! Santa Cruz has had many
changes over the year, most of them for the good.
However, as anyone who plays there regularly knows,
the course is in desperate need of a facelift! The
problems include lack of proper signs, landscaping,
and perhaps most importantly, worn out baskets!
The
Tucson Parks and recreation department has been generously
providing us with new benches, and they have also
indicated that they intend to take on some of the
landscaping issues and eventually provide proper high-tech
signs for the course. But baskets are another issue
altogether!
The
original DGA Mach 3 baskets have served the community
very well for many, many years. But like anything
that sees a lot of use over a long period of time,
they are now worn out. Every one of us who play there
has spent time complaining about "those broken
down #$%^ baskets" not catching discs. Lets face
it, the Santa Cruz baskets are pretty much shot!
If
one thinks about the historical importance of Santa
Cruz, not to mention the amount of people for whom
Santa Cruz is their home course, it becomes obvious
that something should be done! With this in mind,
TCL has announced the Santa Cruz Restoration Project
(SCRP)!
Goal
of SCRP
The
mission of the SCRP is to replace all 18 baskets with
brand new DGA Mach 3 baskets. Any experienced frolfer
will tell you the MACH 3 are the top-of-the-line is
disc catching technology. Ben has been in contact
with DGA, and the total cost for 18 baskets is approximately
$6800.00! This includes shipping and the
amount of sleeves we will need to replace those that
have been rusted, frozen, or damaged.
How
Can We Achieve This
After
careful consideration and much discussion, the TCL
board has come up with three ways that you can help
this project meet its goals!
- Sponsor
a basket! The cost to sponsor a basket
is $375 dollars. In return, your name and/or company
logo will be permanently placed on the tucsondiscgolf.com
web site. We will also have your name or the name
of your company or organization placed on the basket
so that everyone who plays disc golf at Santa Cruz
will know who to thank for donating to the SCRP.
- Donate
any amount via Paypal. By following the
link below, you can donate any amount that you can
afford to the fund via Paypal. Those who sponsor
via Paypal will have there name placed permanently
on the tucsondiscgolf.com web site.
- Donate
cash or cash winnings at any local event or league.
This is probably the most convenient method for
many of you. Donate the change from a $10.00 bill
when you pay for league, or donate your winnings
after a great round! Cash donors will, at their
request, have their names placed permanently on
the tucsondiscgolf.com web site. Ben, Lew, Chris,
Svea, and Steve are all prepared to accept donations.
If you would like to be recognized on the web site,
be sure to let them know. You can donate a little
at each league, and Steve will update the total
amount you have donated on the web site at the next
scheduled web page update.
